Default How to tell if a camaro is a true ss not a z28?

I got a carfax on a 98 ss convertible and on the carfax it doesn't say ss. It says z28. So my question is how can you tell if the car is a true ss and not just a hood and spoiler thrown on with zr1's? Is there an rpo code or anything? Thanks

Look for the WU8 on the door and I would also call SLP with the VIN# just to make sure. That way, you'll be positive.

most states title them as z-28's, not as SS's because that is what the factory paperwork says. Car fax's usually show up that way too.

Funny thing is even a "true" SS, for the most part, is really nothing more than a Z28 that SLP tossed a hood, spoiler, and wheels on.

But yes, I understand what you mean. And code WU8 is correct.

I've heard the SS's had different ratio steering racks and stiffer springs/shocks.

You heard wrong.

As for the springs/shocks, they were the same as a Z28 in later years unless the car was optioned with the SLP/Bilstein suspension. Eariler years used 1LE springs even on a non-SLP option SS.

Only other suspension difference on the later years was the front sway bar diameter and bushings.

Mine has the WU8 code on the door and the SLP stickers and no matter what, my carfax says Z28 as well, even when the dealer pulls my VIN it comes up as a Z28 SS, thats the way it is, dont worry!

Just like a WS6 isnt much more than a T/A with a hood, spoiler and wheels

Actually, the WS6 didn't even get a spoiler change.

But let's leave this in 2007, where it belongs.
