Default Cam gear rubbing on retaining plate [PIC]

I opened up my 32K 2001 LS1 to install a new cam and found some rubbing on the cam retaining plate caused by the cam gear. Is this an issue? I couldn't find anyone else that had posted about it. Thanks

Seems if you pull the plate, and it is worn on the other side as well, the cam may be walking. If it is just the outside, it way have just been a impurity in the TC, or bad angle on the cam face. Looks like it self clearenced itself.

Vinci High Performance addresses this issue here:

This seems to be an issue that some report and some don't.

put a timing set with a torrington bearing on the back of the cam gear. jp performance, slp, rollmaster all have them=problem solved.

I just bought an LS2 timing chain I would like to use. Any reason not to do that? Is this really an issue if most LSX engines do it?

Just the chain. I though the LS2 Cam gear was the same as the LS1.

You only need the LS2 cam gear if you are running a LS2 block/sensor.
