Default Starting in 2nd or 3rd

This is a pretty newb question. Is it bad for the car to start off in 3rd or 2nd? My friend is new to M6 and does this sometimes.

what rpms are he up to if he is starting in third? I start in second when there is snow on the ground, it helps with traction. I do not believe it is bad for the transmission to start in second.

starting in second gear is fine. starting in third gear may wear the clutch a little faster since it takes a lot more effort to get the car off. i've started a truck off before in third and it was pretty wobbly; the engine was struggling and it just didn't feel good...

It is hard on the clutch. He's probably slipping the clutch a lot to start out in 3rd! Our 1st gear ratios are rather high. Now it would be a different story with 4.10 gears.

I have 4.10's and wouldn't start in 3rd... would still have to ride the clutch pretty hard... 2nd maybe but I don't see a point unless in regards to Snow which i do start in 2nd.
