Tstat wont fit in the Meziere water pump..HELP

Tstat wont fit in the Meziere water pump..HELP I have a street version Meziere water pump going on my 00 camaro ss and the paper says to get a sbc tstat. I went down to autozone and picked up a 1970 chevy tstat. The tstat fits the circle but does NOT drop down in the hole of the waterpump like it shows on ls1howto.com. What do i do?
