Most places use a shim thickness of .100"

I am going to do my pump as well and I was told to use a 0.135" shim (I believe it has to be round to fit under the spring). It was advised to me to port the inlet and outlet sides of the pump as well, but I haven't got to this job yet, so I'm not exactly sure what this entails.

I didn't shim mine. In fact my ported Katech pump didn't come with shims, but I have heard that the "shim" is nothing but a washer placed under the spring. Nothing to it at all. Pretty simple operation....

The stock pump should give you about 40 psi at hot idle and about 55psi at hot highway speed. Do you really think your engine [needs] more than that?

A shim is not going to increase pump volume.....
