Default How important are cooler plugs?

Im running an sts at #8 of boost. My timing at full boost was 13-14* and at the time I thought I had tr6's in the car. I've always had a high rpm ping/detonation so I decided to sea foam the car. My plan was to seafoam and then change the oil/ fuel filter, and the plugs. Pulled the first plug and it was a tr55. Which I believe is = to the stock plug. So again my question is how important are cooler plugs on FI? Am I losing a few * timing cause of it?

Cooler Plugs are just a cheap insurance policy.. I dont know if its been PROVEN per say that they are a MUST.... But for 12-15 bucks they cant hurt!

Gap the tr6's @ .035-.036 and your good to go.....

Hope that helps

the spark is harder to blow out so less chance of detonation.

check the gap on all the plus, 1 out of the last 16 i got was off (0.40 compared to 0.35)

also, do youself a favor, 3" swivel (sp) extension for the back passenger plug

I've done the plugs a few times now and can do the drivers side in like 5 minutes. The pass side isn't too bad I always buy a new A.I.R. gasket to get that pipe outta the way. Back on track now I know that the smaller gap will help prevent blow out. The tr55 where gapped .038" but what about heat range. I'm just wondering if I should get my car tuned again to see if there is moe timing to be had.

I dont think theres enough difference for increasing the timing enough for it to matter..

I would just have them for extra insurance..... Less chance of blowing those pistons up!
