I have Edelbrock "shorties" on my 98' SS, would full lengths be worth it?

Would it be worth my time and money to swap out my Edelbrock "shorty" headers for a set of longtubes? Can someone tell me about how much hp/tq I would see over my existing set-up? I just have bolt-ons.

I have the same question for my 6.0 L pick-up. It came with edelbrock shorties. I smoked a honda civic the other night. It has a suspension and body lift, 35/12.50/17 wheels with BFG all terrian tires and most basic mods. I blew the doors off the stupid POS civic. It had blue neon gauges and lights. My exhaust tip was right in his face since the tips are angled out to the sides. Would LTs help my truck? Or is it maxed out on power from bolt ons.

From what I've read the shorties aren't much better than the stock manifolds. I know going from stock exhaust setup to LT's and TD's you gain roughly 35 rwhp.

Couldn't have said it better. Going to LT's from shorties will be a night and day difference.

Definitely agree. Shorties are really just a waste in my opinion. Expect between 25-35rwhp.

Truck came with the shorties. I would have done LTs too, but since they're on there. I'm kinda wondering if I should just redo the exhaust...

well in the real world long tubes over stock is about 20 rwhp (i think you need tune to see that) . your shorties are probably worth maybe 5 hp on a 98-2000. 01&02 have better manifolds (almost as good as shorties) so i believe you would gain 15 over shorties. tpis claims 20, a dynatech mag article says 20 hp / 13 tq. i do not believe any claims of 35hp unless youve got a dyno thats very generous. (unrealistic). just my 2 cents. dyno before and after then we will settle this.

I said that gains of 35 rwhp are very typical when going from stock exhaust to LT's AND TD's. There are many many dyno charts and videos out there to prove this.

I would definitely get a set of LT's.

Like stated above shorties aren't much better than stock manifolds.

I went from 306->349HP, and 325->359ft/lb stock exhaust to LT, true duals, cats, mufflers over the axle.

hello slade x did you run those dyno numbers on the same dyno? 306 to 349? wow i've got more done to my car and i have lower torque #s than you. i'm guessing you had a very generous dyno. dont be dissappointed if you try another dyno that gives you much lower numbers. just my 2 cents we have a dyno HI TECH / anoka mn. that has numbers 20-25 higher than everybody else. i have not run my car there because i want real numbers.

I'm interested in shorties too. So pm me if anyone is looking to get rid of some relatively cheap.

yes, but if you are in a state that subjects cars to a visual inspection, shorties, while only marginally better than the later manifolds, are the best you can run legally.

IMO, may be better to look for a H/C package that works with stock manifolds and cats, like the CheaTR. But I don't have to pass emissions in my Zip code...

I just got my inspection sticker. Old man who was inspecting just said I used to have a muscle car and did the paper work and off I went.
