Sudden clutch blow-up?
Had this in the M6 section but didn't get any response...
Anyone ever thrashed their clutch suddenly in the middle of a WOT run?
I was in 2nd gear, the car spooled and pulled hard for about half a second and then something let go, rpms shot up and I let out of it. Limping along, car would go into gears but sounded awful with mild whining and grinding. This noise is apparent when the clutch is pressed in; the car sounds OK in neutral as long as you don't start to push in the clutch pedal.
Hoping that I fragged my McLeod twin or the master cylinder instead of my T56.

Will the car drive in 4th ?
If it does, the clutch might be ok....
if it doesnt, it defo isnt ok.
unless you snapped the input shaft.
But grinding noises of any kind are never good lol

Bboy, it was just normal roadway. I never have issues with hop, only with spinning. It just felt like some component couldn't hold full torque and gave up.
98turbls1, thanks for the heads-up. I'll pass it on to the shop.

Just to update with the results: the input shaft on the tranny lost some teeth connecting with one of the clutch discs. So there was metal loose in the clutch, too... hence the grinding. It kinda seems odd that the tooth contact region with only one of the discs failed, but maybe the original single disc clutch units that have been on the car did some damage of their own to that specific region on the input shaft.
McLeod rebuilt the clutch, and Newtech tore down the T56 and rebuilt it with all of the billet this/that, keys, forks, whatever. The tranny was the last original stock piece in the driveline, so it's not surprising that it failed...
So now I'm trying to go easy during a 500 mile break-in for the new stuff. Difficult.

Mine lost a hub spring on a spec 3x at the track... Started slipping in 3rd and felt like it had a converter lol, 4th gear proved no slippage but the clutch would no longer disengage. Coasted through the traps trying to get it into 5th. The shrapnel got stuck ieverywhere in the pressure plate and i had to drive it home with no clutch lol.
Normally the car would murder the tires in 3rd on the street through 100 mph but the track had enough bite and must have really taxed the clutch is all i can gather...
