What is the prefered procedure for changing the trans. fluid ? Also which fluid ? Use the suction pump method or drop the pan & replace the filter or both?

Whenever I do tranny maintenence, I always drop the pan, clean out any resedue from the clutch material and clean the magnet, making sure that I leave no dirt or anything in the pan, and I put a new filter in. Button it all up, and add Mercon III tranny fluid. Then I start the car up, put it through all gears a few times, run it around the block to make sure the new fluid is warm, and w/ the car running, check the level again and make sure it's full. You may need a new gasket it you have some leaks around the outside of the pan. Then, you are done until the flud starts to smell burnt, or turn brown. Then ya do it again. I've never used a pump on it.
