Default Differences in tunes of LS1 years (98 -02)

How much did the stock tunes differ from 98-02
I'm curous how much Hp is too be gained within the year with a tune on a stock car.

Specifically the stock tune on an 00 LS1, I heard they are rich and the timing is set low? I'm curious about this so I can get a rough idea on setting timing & a/f from my hand held unit (vinci)

I don't know who told you that. From what I remember, 2000's had the most aggressive timing tables and actually needed fuel to be added as they're modded. Differences between the years are mainly due to slightly different heads/cam designs, different intake manifolds, different injectors, and general learning by the people tuning them from the factory.

So, on a stock 00 ls1 (lid & muffler, ported TB) there is little to be gained with timing. Would the above mods lean it out any?

Let's put it this way. My friend's '00 T/A had a lid, headers/ORYP, and a catback exhaust. His AFR was actually leaner than 13:1 IIRC and he was HEARING pinging while on the dyno a couple of years back before adjusting with his Predator.

Same results on my '00 SS with same mods. As fuel was added, hp and torque picked up. According to dynosheet my average a/f ratio was 12.7:1 and tuned liked that w/HPtuners software, that's where it made it's best hp & tq numbers everywhere from beginning to end of run.

So I should probably add increase the A/F a little? my mods are: Lid, muffler, ported TB. Since I don't plan on going to a dyno just for this. Is this what you guys are saying?
