Bought a car with a cam and have some ?s
I bought a 99 ta A4 with a MTI Stealth cam. The only problem is I know very little about cams and so i have some questions. Ive done some reading and lots of people suggest changing the valve springs every year with this cam? Is this really nessecary and how much would it cost to have a shop do something like that? Another thing is whenever i am stopped at a light you can hear the brakes kind of grinding pretty loud I guess because the cam is surging forward? Any help with that? thanks...o and this is a daily driver and it has full exhaust and all that.

You may want to look into getting it tuned.... My friend has a TSP224R 112 LSA cam with no stall torque converter, it surged before it was tuned but now that its tuned it runs perfect no surging...

Yea its an a4...I dont have a stall but was told that it was tuned by MTI...never saw any papers but see no reason not to believe him. A stall would stop the surging i guess but then how long till im rebuilding my tranny? Not going to be able to afford these rebuilds with college starting

That's a 581 lift cam, you should be ok for plenty of miles depending on the springs. You may want to pull the valve cover if you don't know what kind are in there. I would recommend double springs. How high does it idle if you shift into neutral at stops? Tune should definitely fix the idle if it's too high.
