How can you tell if a LT1 out of a caprice is a 5.7L?

Default How can you tell if a LT1 out of a caprice is a 5.7L?

How can you tell if a LT1 out of a caprice is a 5.7L? It is suppose to be a 94?

Iron heads is a good start, The only true way is using then numbers on the right side of the block just infront of the head.

Iron heads will say it is a caprice motor but is it a 5.7 or a 4.3?

If you can see the car, 8th digit in the VIN will be a P if it is a 5.7L LT1.

i just bought one sunday and i had to go thru the same thing to find out...look on the driver side right behind the head on the block it will say 4300 if its a 4.3

^^ UMM no it wont last time I checked. it should just say 4.3. Casting # is 10168588

look for 327 on the side of the block

my iron headed motor says 5.7 on the back of the block.

Then what will it say on the back of the block if its a 5.7?

if its a 5.7 the last three digits in the casting number will be 327 you will also see 327 cast into the side of the block on the drivers side of the block

Does anybody know what it is if its a 4.3 ...this one says 588 ...I was told its a 4.3 I bought it anyway for 100 bucks and I thought I would be able to part it out n make more money to spend on my car

Many parts are the same, periferals, manifold, timing cover etc. The rods are 5.940, the crank 3.00. Throw the oilpump drive in the parts box, never know when it will come in handy, my old one resides in a friend's 383. The injectors are 19lbs, fuel rail is the same.

I do not like using the 327 as an identifier because on the front of the L99 block it says 327, granted the 327/588 we are telling guys to use is cast into the side but I still see it as a potential source of confusion so behind the drivers side head gets my vote as the best identifier.
