Default Engine Balance

This is an odd question but want to see what others on here may have had done.

When balancing the rotating assy. do you balance the flexplate/flywheel as a complete set up.

My experiences with Pro shops like Katech, Brayton Engineering, LSM and GM have all balanced engines for me by balancing the Assy first then bolting on the flexplate/flywheel then checking it again.

With is recommended, but of you ever replace a part like a flexplate, hope the new one is zeroed into spec also.

Here is my problem. Took in to get balanced to get it back with a differant flexplate (zero) balance. Never gave it a thought till 5 am monday when I was putting it on the car. IT was a Zero balance for 84 and older engines.
Problem is now its all balanced and do not have a flexplate that is Zero. No one makes one for 1PC seal. My options are

1, take the SFI 1PC seal flexplate and cut the weight off

2, tear the engine apart and send to a shop and have balanced

Shitty...i bought a 383 "kit" second hand, already balanced with a flex plate, i was scared when i put it together with my flywheel for my t5, i got lucky, no balance issues, they balanced it to a factory rear balance.

I would say just talk to the machine shop of your choice preferably performance oriented shop,

Good luck.

The stock LT1 Flexplate that I had on mine was Neutral Balanced..that is pretty much how all the new ones are.
What do you have?

The_Merv, Stockers are not Zero. If you look at the engine side there is a weight welded on it. Cant remember what the weight is.

Zones89RS, The shop that did this work is a performance shop and a sponcer

Yea..the weight makes it Neutral Balanced..so it doesn't throw the Internal Balance off.
My LT1 was Balanced by a Machine Shop..and so was my 402 Stroker, both times the Flexplate was not needed. They tested it to make sure it was good..and it was.
