Default Advice on Piston Replace

So the shop tore down my car, and the valve spring snapped and valve rod bent, which in turn caused a small indent on the piston itself. The indent is about 1/5 of a inch deep, and a moon shape about an inch long. Is it warranted to replace the piston, and if so, how long would the car last if i did not replace it, im looking to get at least 3-6 months out of it before it breaks down again. If not, how long would the car last, the biggest issue the shop was worried about is it may cause the piston to crack and then im in trouble, but personally i dont think it would happen.

Thanks for your input.

1/5 of an inch sounds pretty deep to me. I have had this happen in a low power motor before but it was barely even visable on the piston. The motor is still going and that was back in 1998 or 1999. It only got about 40k miles since then.
