Default brand new spec stage 3+ having problems please help.

installed my spec 3+ and havent been able to drive the car because when the car is running it wont go into all gears and even with the clutch all the way to the floor the car still wants to roll. i did not put the shim in because i was told on here not to. do you think this is the problem?

my dad thinks the problem is the shim and/or the slave. i dont think not shimming it is the problem, i just think i have a bad slave.

can anyone recommend anything?

preferably spec_01 or whatever his name on here is, im pretty sure he works for spec....

ANY advice would be appreciated....i would like to drive my car before summer is over...

thanks guys.

Obviously, the clutch is not disengaging. Try bleeding the hydraulics many times. If that doesn't work you will need to pull the trans.

i guess i forgot to mention that we already have bled the the clutch many many many times, i bled it for 2 hours straight one night. so much that all the fluid is new because we bled all the old stuff out.

so knowing that, any other ideas?

thanks for the help so far

I would say if the shim was sent to you with the clutch to install it. some people can get away without using it (somtimes this may be due to the fact they have an adjustable master) it sounds like in your case thats not going to work. If you are sure you have blead all the air out of the system then you may have to install that shim.
I had the same problem with my first clutch that I did. after I blead it with a mighty vac everthing was good. Also did you upgrade the hydrolics? You may want to replace the slave since it is pre 01.
hope this helps.

You need the shim, it isnt disengaging because because the TO bearing is too far from the pressure plate, hence the reason for the shim. An adjustable master would be a good idea too.

A lot of times using a after market clutch, you need a slave shim. A trany guy told me, the place he worked at, would shim out the flywheel if it had been cut down to a certain amount!

wow, well i guess im just worried about the clutch wearing really fast if i use the shim.

i have read alot about the shim and alot of guys said not to use it because the clutch will just get toasted after like 5k miles...

maybe i should throw it in there and see what happens.....

i cant afford another 800 bucks for clutch and flywheel though...

Default shim

the shim shouldn't make ur clutch wear out, esp. if u have an adjustable master. u definatly need it installed though.

In the instruction sheet, it specifically states that you need to install the shim when putting the clutch on a F-Body.

Agreed. If it wasn't needed they wouldn't have put it in the box. I installed the shim in mine and it is just fine.

I have a Spec 2+ and installed the shim. It would still never disengage at first until a couple moderate launches(2500 rpm or so) After that it worked but did not totally disengage at high RM(no high RPM shifting).

Our last ditch effort was an adjustible master(we used a RAM) and it is now working MUCH MUCH better....

since this hasnt been asked... what flywheel are you using? are you using an old flywheel?? it might be out of spec now.. and pushes the clutch further away as well.
