Default 1.6 RRs on 93 vette heads...

Allright, i got a set of 93 LT1 vette heads, ported them and was wanting to get the most from them by going with 1.6 RRs, my machine shop(a verry good one) that i use told me thet with the ratio on the lift the stock springs would coil bind right at the max lift, anyone just strap some 1.6ers on their LT1 and not coil bind or have any issues or is a spring change a must?

You will have to probably shim that spring set to get your installed height were it is supposed to be. What cam are you running?

I would suggest not going the cheap route with springs, it is cheap insurance for your engine.

I can get some for 80$ that i have used before, good to .600, worked fine on my buddys formula, i busted the dampers on my 89RS with them, but thats cause the machine shop i used didnt install them at the right height.

I would use the ZO6 (yellow spring) part #12499224 that only runs around $60 and get the matching retainer from Comp Cams #787-16 for around $60. This way you have a spring rated for a .570 lift cam and get the added advatages of the light weight spring/retainer package. The installed height will match the LT-1's without having to use shims or machine work to the heads.

Crane 10308 kit comes with dual springs good to .6 lift, and the neccessary shims, locks, and retainers for use on LT1 heads.
