Default Ordered a 242/242 595 112 Cam

for my JPR 388ci all-bore, and I really hope it clears P to V! Intake valves on the ARE heads are 2.08, the pistons are diamond pistons and the tops are domed in.

JPR was initially looking at a 236/236 cam (forgot the lift), then we were looking at a 240/240 with 587 lift 112 lsa, but couldnt find one in stock. Joe went out of town and asked me to see what I could find 240, maybe 242, under 600 lift, so this is what I came up with! Should arrive next week from Tbryrne, hoping to get it in and dynoed next saturday.

Other updates on the setup:
--ran 1/8 mile at cecil, 3600 raceweight, moisture on the track causing problems. Only managed a 7.44 @ 94.4 MPH on a 1.596 60'. Also had made some suspension adjustments for more streetability, I am sure this didnt help.
--bought yella terra rocker rollers...will be installed same time as cam
--installed 3.5" denny's HD aluminum driveshaft. heavier than stock, so will loose some power there most likely.
--tuning problems: what to do? I have Ed wright, and we havent checked but I believe the PCM is locked out. Car keeps throwing the knock sensor check engine light and was running 3-4 degrees knock on the dyno. I dont want to send it in for more tuning, rather use LS1 edit, but how do I manage that? I dont think the car is driveable on a stock PCM.
--blowing blue smoke from tailpipes under WOT high rpm. I thought this was a new problem, but my girlfriend pointed out that it was doing this when she was following me one time with just the h/c setup. Might have a valve seal leak? Joe will take a look, but if it is something with the heads (and I suspect it is because there was oil all in the intake area when the intake was taken off) it sounds like a pain in the a** to try and find replacement parts, etc..I was burning 1.5 - 2 quarts oil every time at the track previously, I did not have substantial oil loss after this last jaunt to the track, but I definately made more smoke.

The LS6 galley cover with the PVC setup in it may cure or help the oil issue. I am in the same boat as you with the PCM. Mine was done by Ed but now I wanted to get it Dyno tuned to get a more accurate tune done.

Erik this is the Lunati cam right? I am all set to order it for my 409 as well. Please let me know when it goes in, what the deal is. I may come down to Joes and sit in the car. I also would like to see my Hawk again.

Bear, although it specs out the suspiciously the same as that Lunati cam, it is actually a comp cam -- which is good because for some reason that makes it $100 cheaper. My budget is looking kinda like a man with 12 asses right about now. You are of course welcome to sit in the car, even drive it around a bit if you like.

pewter -- I think we are going to try that LS6 oil management system. Crossing my fingers that this solves the problem.

Erik I think Tbyrne is smoking the wack tobacky. They have the Lunati listed at $430. I called Lunati direct yesterday and the cam was $350. That is one hell of a difference. Cannibal has a post looking for a cam for his 427. Someone chimed in the Comp has a 242 with .612 lift on a 112. It seems a little more agressive then yours. I have a Comp Cat in the mail and I will look through it whn it arrives. Good Luck.

no problem, guess i didn't, i tried using the email method on ls1 tech (some new feature where you wright in both emails and it sends it from you email). Anyways, if things go bad and he doesn't send you the money throw me an email, and good luck with the new setup.

Well I called tbyrne today and it turns out it is a Lunati. I am getting some opinions now that the cam's ramp rate is on the "lazy" side at 300 degrees intake/exhaust advetised duration, which makes me really concerned. I tried cancelling the order (oh I paid $399 for it by the way ) but it is already on its way and now I am going to get hit with a 20% restocking fee if I send it back.

Paul @ thunder says the comp cams in the same neighborhood are:
238/238 585 112LSA XE-R (fast ramping, I think he said ~291)
244/244 595 112LSA XE-R
240/240 609 112LSA XE (not as fast as XE-R)
I like the specs on the 240 cam, but I think the lift is excessive and I think I really need the faster ramp rate. The 244 seems a bit excessive, and the 238 might be a tad small...blah, Im sick of this already

If anyone has any other knowledge about these cams and what the ramp rate differences really are, please let me know.

Joe is supposed so get back to me on which one to take.
