I've heard alot of really good things about Golen. I talked to Chad a while back over a small issue that I had (not with his work) and he was very helpful and a overall good guy to talk to. Karl Ellwein has them do alot of work for him. As for the power production, I'm pretty sure that GMHTP tested one in a Camaro a while back. If I remember correctly the review was pretty good. If I were you I'd look into it.

Well, I talked with Chad several times on the phone 2 years ago and I wanted to drop my stock shortblock off and have him do a 383ci for me. Well, I told him I could bring it up on saturday morning because i couldnt get out of work early on Friday, but he didnt like to be at the shop on the weekends during the summer (I believe he had a weekend cottage or something he went to every weekend). This wasnt one weekend, i was his schedule for the season.
He would gladly take my $3600 if I would leave work on Friday to bring him my engine, but he couldnt wait around till the next morning. That told me his personal life plays a role on his business decisions... I didnt want to deal with that.
I am sure he puts a decent product together, but he definitely wasnt flexible when I wanted to do business with him.

This is just the last 3 months on the b-body forum.
In this buisiness *** kissing makes for happer customers than true performance, I don't understand it but I see it. As such some of the most popular vendors are just good *** kissers rather than true performance gurus. A real good *** kisser can screwup someones parts and still get that person to say good things about him, meaning a positive reputation continues to grow despite poor results. You need to pay attention to spot this stuff and most of you don't pay enough attention, you just want to be sold things rather than do real research and make informed decisions.

Kind of a hijack here, But..
How many vendors(both on site, and off) offer crate motors for lt1 replacement?
Id like to build up a healthy motor eventually, but would it be cost effective to buy a motor instead?

yea..i had a bad experience with golen a couple years ago and my block was never any good. had it rebuilt a couple times since and block sucked. maybe not golen's fault, but i wont try that again. i'd like to know who else does them but VRE, Speed Inc, etc.
they're kinda expensive these days.

Mailorder tuning first requires the cars owner has a clue and give a detailed mod list, IMO a lot of mailorder tunes go bad from this end. I am running a mailorder tune, I made some fuel system changes and had to tinker a little with the injectors sizing in the tune after but have made no attempt to play with timing, obviously it runs pretty well. This is a Creech tune though, not the most popular tuner.
