How do you clear an SES light?

How do you clear an SES light?
I thought that I read some time ago that there is a trick to clearing the SES light. Am I remembering right, or am I just making stuff up? Is there any way to clear it because I already know what it is and it just keeps coming back on. Thanks

There's nothing wrong with the car, its just the O2 sensors that are being thrown off, and I dont like driving 40 mins. to the nearest shop to get it cleared. So is there really a way to clear it without using Autotap, etc., because if there is, then Id like to clear it. I just think it makes the car look like it has problems when its on. Thanks.

1. Turn key on but don't start car.
2. Pull PCM BAT and PCM IGN fuses in engine compartment.
3. Wait a few minutes.
4. Turn ignition off.
5. Replace fuses.
It will take the car a while to relearn the fuel and timing curves so don't worry about a temporary performance loss.

Reverse #'s 1 and 2. Then proceed in order. If you pull the fuses with the ignition on, you'll run the risk of getting shocked, or blowing the fuses. Safety First!!

I had to use it several times myself before I had EFILive and LS1edit with no problems. I understood the key had to be on for the pcm to reset completely.?.?

Re: How do you clear an SES light?
FYI,
every time you manually delete error codes ( or reomve battery) you also are forcing all I/M 240 smog tests back to a incomplete ( failed) state.
Some may take as many as 40 valid drive cycles to get backed to a complete state.
This does put a burden on the PCM for the tests that run constant (when engine is running) will take up some process time.
Also if course if you have to go in for a smog test and they do I/M 240 tests, instead of 1 test being in a failed state several now could be due to the erase you forced.
EPA linked deleting DTC error codes to resetting tests to fail so people did not try and pull a fast one by clearing codes just before doing a smog test.

So would I be better and safer off just getting it cleared with the right tool, rather than trying to avoid driving 40 mins. to MTI. Im sure that the trick of pulling the fuses out and whatnot works, but may cause some problems. Ill stick with MTI even though its bit of a drive. Thanks

You shouldn't have any trouble resetting your pcm by pulling the fusses. As long as you aren't on your way to have your car inspected, and have to have emission test done. It takes a while for your car to complete all the driving cycles.

Re: How do you clear an SES light?
Yea, but how long does that equate to driving time? How many on/off ignition cycles is that?
From a cold start, I let it idle up to operating temperature and then after I have driven 20 or 30 miles, my car will past emissions test
