Default Mechanical Engineer

hey everyone first i want to thank everyone on this site, its awsome, i just bought a 2001 camaro with a bunch of mods on it and i absolutely love it, its a little easier to drive around than my old 1973 camaro which is still badass by the way. my new camaro will be going down to san luis obispo in a month where ill be attending cal poly majoring in mechanical engineering. i hope to some day work for some high performance company designing engines, cams heads or something along those lines, and i was wondering if anyone else on here was a mechanical engineer? thanks

Im not a mechanical engineer YET, but I hope to be one. Im about to start my second year of college where I am majoring in engineering. Sounds like we have the same hopes and aspirations. But yes, there are a bunch of engineers on here. I agree this site is awesome, its a wonderful resource. Good luck with your studies!

That is exactly why I wanted to be a ME too, then in college I realized that most MEs don't get that job, alot of engineering work is at a desk and alot of the automotive work is very specialized, for instance instead of designig engines, you might design back seats for a few YEARS, then you get to design cooler like the frontseat. That is how the Honda recruiter explained it to me and I said no thanks. So I went a different route and now I am in technical sales.

I'm am an ME and I work at GM in product validation. I didn't enjoy classes like heat transfer, thermo or fluids all that much... a good knowledge of these is required to be a powertrain designer. But, it is good to enter school knowing what you would like to do when you are done, a plan is always good.

ME here also. BALL STATE!! I'm currently working for Paragon medical and Depuy Spine(both an ortho company). I just got an offer from Nestle, so I'll be starting there in a month. I mostly deal with problemsolving and designing protos with a Stereolithography machine (thats right same machine that builds carbs for F1). Being a ME is great and if you get your SME, you can go anywhere, but its a very hard test. Wish I was in automotive design, maybe someday. Good Luck!!!

I was planning on a mechanical degree but decided with Civil instead at clarkson university, seemed like there were more job oppurtunities, and I'm pretty much content with designing anything anyways so it works for me I guess. Not at all crazy about calculus, fluids or thermo, but I liked the structural type of classes. I have one year left and this year just about every class directly focuses on my major, should be a little more interesting. After that its time to get a real job, can't wait!
