Default Question about A604 tranny

I have a question regarding a 2000 Chrysler Cirrus regarding an automatic transmission.
The car will go into second gear and then not shift out of 2nd while reaching a top speed of 30-35 with the RPMs staying at around 5000. It will shift into gears while parked, and their seems to be nothing wrong with the engine, but the car will not go over 35MPH and does not shift out of 2nd gear. The check engine light is also on. This car only has 20K on it . Any help would be helpful. Thank You.

Chrysler engineered that transmission to have a feature called "Limp in". Basically it will lock down in 2nd gear when there is a fault detected. Those utilize an input and output speed sensor... they are notorious for failing.

Usually if the condition is intermittant the transmission will try to upshift at least one time after the ignition key has been cycled. If it goes into Limp In immediately then the problem can be considered a hard fault and should be easily diagnosed.

It is not likely at that low mileage that there is an internal problem.

Good Luck.

I wouldn't bet on the oss, if the speedo is working. None the less, it needs to be scanned. Check your fuses first. If there is no power to the solenoid pack, it'll hard fault with codes.
