Default Gas in the oil 13qts?????

My oil pan was leaking on a SB 350 that I just got. Went to drain the oil it shot out like mad. Was like water and smelled of gas. Drained about 13quarts. What the hell? How would gas get in the oil and why so much. Did the intake leak? Timing off???? Any ideas would be great???

Does it have a mechanical fuel pump? If so see if it failed - diaphram leaking?

Are you sure it's gas? Not diesel? Did you get the engine seperate or was it in a car? A common method of storing an engine is called "pickling" and involves filling the entire crankcase full of diesel to help preserve the internals. It is more common in marine operations but can be done for automotive use as well. This could be the reason that there was 13 quarts of fuel in your crankcase.

Well took the oil pan off to redo the gasket and found a peice of the passenger front piston in the oil pan. I can see where the peice below the rings the small tip that sticks down broke off. Could this have any thing to do with it???

you have wash down. The fuel is getting past the rings and going into the crankcase. Motor has to come apart. No other way around it. Time for a rebuild.

^ That's a LOT of fuel for that theroy! That would take a long time to happen and it prolly had no power while it was running, if it did it that bad...

But if there was something leaking in the carb, that's still a lot of fuel.. It would only drain the bowl while it's sitting (not running).

Float sticking open in the carb and gas leaks in once you stop the engine. Have you noticed a longer cranking time to get it started lately? Due to empty carb? Won't take long to accumulate a lot of gas in the oil, and you won't notice right away. Carb rebuild time, my opinion.

The gas tank is on e. There is no gas squirting into the carb. sounds like the first thing to do is get more gas. So ill pick up 5 gallons today. The car ran about 5 times for about 30 seconds to a minuet each time then stalled no fuel. Also need to change the fuel filter

^^^ Why are you trying to start it when you are missing a piston? Unless I missed where you rebuilt it already?

I want to see if the trans is ok and drive it down the street. Whats the worst that could happen! Blow it. Just an excuse to re-build or put in a big block. I dont have time to stand around and just look at the thing every night

I would just pull the motor and figure out what you are gonna do with it, not gonna be able to really test the transmission with 7 out of 8 cylinders lol.

Its no LS1 motor but Ill hammer down good and put a hurtin on that turbo 350 trans. Plus I have no way to pull the motor without a cherry picker and when I get it out the car will have to go outside as there will be no room in the garge for the Z28 and Trans Am
