Default New seats or place to get seats re-covered

Hello,

I have stock '98 TA seats, and the stitching between the leather panels and the vinyl covered side bolsters has split open. I always thought the seats were a bit hard, so now's the time to get this fixed.

The question: Do I try to find totally new seats, or try to find a shop near Wichita Falls TX (100 miles NW of Dallas) to re-cover the seats? If I get them re-covered, I'd probably ask the shop to do both driver and passenger seats and maybe try to add a bit more foam to make them more comfortable.

Any suggestions on sources for seats or shops near my area that could fix up the seats at a reasonable price (ie. less than new seats)?

Thanks in advance.

I recommend getting them recovered. Granted mine were mint, but I had them re-done to have a better material and 2-tone (black with gray/pewter centers). Do a search you should be able to find more then enough info.

PM 95greenbird and he will hook you up with whatever you want. He will totally recover them in whatever material/color/stitch pattern you want and his prices are hard to beat. I will be getting mine done this winter by him. Where are you located?

I'm in Wichita Falls, TX. I figure I can swing a trip as far as Dallas or Oklahoma City to get this done, but that's about as far as I could drive to get the seats redone.

I would get them recovered. Just because the new material will be most likely better than original or after market seats.

Mine did the same on the drivers side, in a small 1/2" tear right where it meets the plastic 'vane' looking side piece. I bought a leather repair kit today, just filled in the hole with filler and matched the paint (by mixing black and white to give gray) and will attempt the burning process tomorrow. Hopefully for this small of a repair it will work. The kit comes with backing material and leather that you put behind the tear so the filler has something to adhere to. The burning action (a small heat deal comes in the kit) is supposed to make the color paste look like leather by applying the heat on top of a piece of fabric that has the leather grain in it. I'll let you know how it looks (pics) tomorrow. Unfortunately that's where your back slides against while getting in and out of the car.
