excellent post.. i reposted this as a bulletin on my myspace...
i think everyone should own atleast one gun and every man women and child should know how to saftely handle and use them..
ive been around guns my entire life, and im not giving that up... all my paperwork is mailed out for my concealed weapons permit and i am current waiting on the department of agriculture to receive it... they sure do take their time..
the next gunshow around here is on my birthday and i wanna get myself a nice carry piece as a birthday gift to myself without having to wait 2 days and to pay a fee to a local shop to hold it..

Amen to that brother! I love my guns! Ive got a PA63 that I love - as well as my Mossberg Shotgun ect. True story - When I was in college I went down to Homestead 2 days after Andrew hit to help with the relief efforts. I seen all kind of crazy stuff as well as goodness. Ive seen the Church and community rallying together to help out those who needed it. I also have seen gangs of people who were roaming the streets looting and robbing. Do you know who the gangs of looters did not rob and or beat up? You guessed it! The lawful citizens who sat on their porch with a shotgun or other firearms with a sign that said," you loot, We shoot! "

Just to add a viewpoint from someone born and raised in a country which has some of the toughest gun laws in the world.
Firstly, just let me say, I HATE weapons of any kind. That out of the way.....
When I moved to this country and became a legal permanent resident, the first thing I did was get my CCW and a .45 semi-auto which I carry with me at all times.
In England (where I am originally from) guns are outlawed totally, no one can (legally) own a gun. However, people get shot every week there?, why?, because laws only control law abiding citizens.
I hope I never have to use the gun I have, but I feel a lot safer in this country owning a gun than I ever did in England without one.

Exactly.
The notion of police "enforcing" the law and "protecting" you is idiotic. They do their best to be sure and sometimes they are able to prevent things, but they are mainly historians and punishers. No cop sits in your living room every night while you sleep ready to "enforce" the law should a burglar/rapist/murderer come in. You'd better be prepared to defend you self. Let the cops interrogate you rather than put your body in a trash bag.
