Heres a writeup with pics on how i did this on my 97 Corvette, the premice is the same for an F-Body just the pcm is in a different location.

The number 1 thing i can tell you is youll need to have some patience, it requires alot of attention to detail, and youll need a tuner who is very familiar with EFI Live, no other tuning suite can accomplish this swap.

Honestly, i think its all a matter of attention to detail, if you take your time and seperate the wires and install them in a logical manner none should need to be extended, that is assuming the harness is in good condition to start with.

On the issue, what exactly would you benefit from the swap? Thanks for the input. I'm kind of new to the tuning side, once you've swapped will it work without EFI live so i can drive it to the tuner or are the tables completely screwed. Also, what version of EFI live should I get 98 or 99-02?

Better commanded NA fueling/spark tables. Better, meaning more resolution which equals better drivability and safe and effective horsepower.
With EFI Live's Custom Operating systems you will be able to add fuel / pull timing at 400rpm increments at the flip of a switch. Essentially you will be able to run around with a safe all out motor tune and then at the flip of a switch run a safe, N20 tune.
The only thing you will need to deviate from the stock GM OS is the fuel segment to get your fuel gage to display properly.
Obstensively, you could acquire a 99+up pcm, do the wire swap (wether you yourself with it in the car or disconnect the engine side at the passenger side kick panel/firewall and send it off to somebody) and flash a 02 Fbody OS/cal.
Depending on the exisiting mods (H/C, already tuned/untuned etc??) you should be able to get it to a shop/tuner.
You, or your tuner will need EFI Live's Commercial Version with V1 or V2 interface.

Read that thread Doc linked again, what hes tellin you is youll need a 99 vin to make HP Tuners work with a 99 PCM, ask yourself, does your car have a 99 vin?

You can run a 99 vin on the car, and be fine, just not pass emissions testing, if they do a vin inquiry on the vehicle through OBD2.
I plan on swapping mine soon to a 99+ controller, just waiting for somebody to buy my 98 roadrunner
so I can use my 99+ roadrunner in the car.
The corvette appears to have a LOT more wire going to the pcm, so it makes it look easier than working in the cramped areas of the lsx f-cars.

Yes you could run a bogus vin in your PCM, but honestly, that IMO is not something i would ever want to do, when EFI Live allows you to run your Vin in the newer PCM.
Ya the vette we found out was physically easier to do the swap, sitting in a chair is much better then hunching over the fender
