Default Oil Pressure too High?

I got on my car really hard for the first time in forever. I don't think I have spun it past 4.5K rpms in 6 or 7 months. Anyway I went all the way through 1st and 2nd and once I got into 3rd I let off of it. As I was slowing down I noticed my "check gages" light was on but everything looked to be ok. The only thing that looked a little out of whack was my oil pressure was pretty high, getting close to the 80 mark.

I run 6 quarts of mobil 1 synthetic with a k&n filter. Is it a problem for my pressure to get up this high?

What is the code of the CEL?.. get it scanned and then let us know what the code is. The engine should be able to handle 80psi ok.. what is the idle and normal crusing pressures ?

My stock LS1 with a stock LS6 pump does around 80psi on cold start up and on WOT. What weight are you using ?

no they can hold 6 without any issues. Its basically recommended due to how much stays up top. Some people run even more than that when road racing and such, it shouldn't affect pressure anyway.

no check engine light came on, it was the check gages light in the lower left corner of the dash. The same light that comes on with low gas, or low voltage.

I use 10w-30 or 10w-40 depending on what wal-mart has on the shelf in those 5 quart jugs.

Today while cruising down the interstate at ~80 it was a little above 40 psi. At 80 I am around 2200 rpms.

The car hold 6 qts.

Your fine as far as the oil pressure goes. I have and LS6 Ported and shimmed oil pump. My pressure is pretty good.

oncold start up it is at 70 PSI, WOT about 75 PSI crusing like at 55 PSI

I too run M1 5W30 Fully Synthetic.
