Default Do I have to resurface flywheel/change bolts when changing clutch?

I don't have flywheel bolts now, so - should I take off flywheel, resurface it and reuse old bolts, or should I just leave flywheel in place, without taking it off to resurface?

Every time you replace the clutch always have the flywheel resurfaced. OR buy a new one if for example is a Spec clutch, or LS7. The general consensus is to cut the flywheel only once.

Not resurfacing it can lead to uneven clutch surface and premature wear if not out right failure

I bought new bolts the 1st time I changed my clutch. I've reused these bolts for the last 2 clutchs without any problem. Also.... you can buy a brand new steel billet 23 lb. flywheel on Ebay from AMS Racing for $115.

If there are ANY hot spots on the surface(blueish areas), it should be resurfaced. You don't need new bolts, I never got new ones. But use plenty of RED loctite on them. If a bolt backs out in your clutch... KABOOM!

Think it's too risky without resurfacing?

It's a quick way to ruin a new clutch.

Will try hard to resurface
But, is it proven fact that not resurfacing will lead to uneven contact and wear, or is it more like the myth?

Damn straight. Go ahead and try to shortcut it, youll be one of the typical people here that starts a thread about whatever brand clutch you buy being a POS, but really it will be your own fault and I will delete your silly thread when you post it.

Its not a frigign myth, its physics, think about it and picture in your mind what an uneven flywheel will do to a flat clutch disk.

Just find the time for a resurface, it is well worth it.

ITS HURT!

i would just replace that thing but a resurface might work...

as for the top bolts there are a few things the swival sockets with the socket right on it

or open end wrench from the top might get it loose then use the 1/4"

You mean get them from under bonnet? Or still under the car? I used open ended wrench extending it in crazy ways for a couple of hours... Don't know if I'll be able to tighten the bolts back to same amount

one way from under the hood kinda works.

another idea that might kinda work would be to use a jack to apply some slight pressure to the front of the crank on the dampener to get the motor mounts to flex a little and give you some more room.

but that flywheel needs to be at least resurfaced but i would just buy a new one if you got the money

too much for new flywheel + shipping about $150+taxes...

Thanx guys, flywheel is in the shop waiting to be resurfaced.
Now I'm trying to decide whether I can put it back without balancing...
