Default oil question

i know some Ls1s burn oil but how much? mine is going through a quart about every 500 miles. im running ams oil and this is getting expensive..

About 1 quart every three thousand miles is considered normal. Your situation is excessive. You need to find out what's wrong.

check into your pcv system and if it checks out fine time for a compression test

thanks for the help but the solution was simple. i bought a new dipstick cause the old one was rather hard to read. turns out the new one was almost an inch shorter than the factory one. i thought i had burned a bunch of oil but wasnt. just assumed both dipsticks were the same length. i guess thats what you get when parts are made in china..
