Default F-Body - How to remove turn signal lever?

How do I remove this part without damaging anything? Mine is worn out and the lettering is almost completely gone. I've ordered a new one and need to know how to install it. I know it's just a plug and play, but how do I remove?

Disconnect the cruise control wire(if u have cruise) and then put the signal into the right turn position. From there pull it straight out from the column. Comes out pretty easy. Scary to do the first time though.

I thought I saw a torx screw towards the end of the shaft holding it down?

not on mine. I was kinda shocked how easy it was. my 97 has the newer interior as the 98+ so should be the same.
