Do you need any supporting mods with a baby cam?
Is is possible to just buy a cam without all the extra stuff? I am thinking about putting a small cam in my 00 WS6 but I am not wanting to change much of anything else. I don't know a lot about the internals of engines, can anyone give me any advice? What direction should i look in to purchase a small cam?

He could put a giant cam in without having to change anything else except for that and mabey his timeing chain if needed.

If you are going in and doing a cam, the min you should do is a ls2 timing chain (only $40), upgrade to a ls6 oil pump ($100ish), valve springs and poss pushrods. Do it while you are in there so you don't have to go back and back track you know.

we are on the same page maybe not for the same reasons. as i am thinking baby cam as well. all will work best with supporting mods.
i have been trying to research the GM hot cam LS-1 219\228 112lsa (roughly)everyone seems to go bigger 224\224 any way. but with a DD that started w\100,000 miles that i intend to put 25,000 to 30,000miles a year and the agressive ramp rates on the after maket cams is not something i'm sure i want to deal with.
my goal is high 300s rwhp at 30+mpg hwy. i belive i can make that happen with working lean cruise.
Sponsers please chime in on baby cams.

yeah i would do all the bolts on first otherwise your going to get crap out of the cam. if your cars an a4 i would do the stall first. i put a yank ss 3600 and honestly i can hardly tell the differnce (i did get it tuned though). but yeah i would do your basics atleast like stall, headers and exhaust and a lid. then when your cam swap a cam, timing chain, oil pump and pulley. youll like the car a lot more

if u want a cam, u want more HP, right?
why go through all the trouble of doing a (baby)cam to only get 25whp, if that.
just get a lid(8-10hp)- used ones are pretty cheap($50-65)
port ur TB(5-8hp)-do it urself for cheap or ask bo-white for a deal prolly ($100)
add a cutout(10-15hp)-buy it on one of the sponsers>> ($50-60+$20 for welding it)
ull get roughly the same gains as a baby cam and u can do it all within a couple of hours.
do these mods(at the very least) then do the cam, ull get more out of the cam.
but if u do decide to add only the cam(its a dumb choice) add springs, seats, retainers, seals, pushrods, timing chain, oil pump, and a pulley. then go get it tuned
just my .02
