Default FLP headers bang - Y-pipe upside down?

I installed FLP headers in December and this weekend I started a H/C swap - so FLP's are off again.

These headers/exhaust have always banged the floor boards on hard acceleration - which stinks.

Question: In looking at the setup again this weekend, I notice that the Y-Pipe is not symetrical; is it possible that I installed the Y-pipe upside down? I don't think this is possible but thought someone would know...

No there is now way it would bolt up like that. Just screw some heater hose between the y-pipe and the floor where it hits and it won't bang anymore.

Oh Thanks...

Does the heater hose melt, catch fire or smell bad; does it need to be clamped to the Y-pipe or should I use sheet metal screws to secure the hose to the floorboard so it does not contact the exhaust pipe?

Also I have some heat shields that are rattling. I was thinking of jamming some tin foil in between the shields and the floor boards. Does this work too?

Thanks...

"use sheet metal screws to secure the hose to the floorboard so it does not contact the exhaust pipe"

With the heat shields, see if you can secure them using more sheet metal screws; imho the tinfoil will merely work it's way out over time.

OK, thanks.

One more simple-ton question; when I secure the hose to the floor board using sheet metal screws, should I leave a loop in the hose to absorb the shock of the pipe when it hits. ..or should I install the hose flat against the floorboard?

dont use the screws, thatll just make it harder to get the exhaust back up. i use a hoseclamp and you can bolt the exhaust back up easy and slide the heater tubing up once its bolted up...then you dont have to be drilling any holes or anything.

I like to use header wrap intead of the heater hose as it's fire proof pretty much. Just fold it over itself 3 or 4 times and clamp it to the Y-pipe where it hits the floor board...

Hey Drive A TransAm:
Thanks... I'm not sure about your set up, however. When you say use a hose and clamps, what does this mean?

Are you clamping a section of rubber heater hose to the exhaust pipe? Does this burn/smell?

The heater hose will not burn or smell on the coated FLP y-pipe

hose clamp band thingies...lol. you tighten them with a screw driver and it pulls the strip tighter. not sure how to explain them.

im actually using hose from my AIR system it doesnt smell or anything. its been on there for some time now. using this setup you dont have to have holes drilled and its easier to get your exhaust back up.

oh and also you can just take your heat sheilds off if they are rattling. i shaved 8lbs by taking all mine off except the one that covers the gas lines by the header
