Default What makes the A4 shift quicker?

Howdy! Simple question not really related to racing or performance. One of the most annoying things I do is when i'm backing out of a parking spot for example and shift to "D"... I find myself revving the engine and not moving anywhere. So is it normal for the A4 to actually take sometimes up to, literally, a couple seconds to get in gear. Is it cause the computer is just that slow or what? Anyway, is there somthin I can do to make it quicker so I can just shift and go without worrying about gear dropping at 1500-2k rpm?

That does not sound normal to me. Sounds like you might need to have that tranny looked at. Mine has been redone in the last three months but even before the rebuild it did not have that big of a lag. Might try the automatic transmission forum, there are some guys in there that would be able to give a better diagnosis.

I had a tranny do that before. The filter was clogged in the pan so it took a few seconds to build up pressure. May want to take it somewhere and have it looked at before it becomes a serious problem.

Something is wrong. What happens when you hit the open road? If you put your foot into it, does the A4 downshift and kick ***? You may need tranny service.

Definitely needs help, should take less than a second if that. It does take a little to register after you move the shifter though.

Naw when its in drive goin up and down through 1st and 4th gear it doesnt have any problem at all. Mainly I only notice the lag when I go OUT of neutral and INTO drive or reverse. No codes are coming up or anything and the normal shifts feel smooth.

yea, have it checked out, most likely the filter is clogged. Another thing, the tranny fluid could be low, i've had that problem with my 98 Dodge Ram 2500 V10. Driving down the road, it would shift fine, but when out of park or neutral, it would have a very long lag time. Check those to options out, and get back to us

Now what could be the issue if it shifts slow or feels like its hanging at WOT, could that be a clogged filter as well?

Best case: Filter and fluid need changing

Worst case: Tranny is slipping

ya most likely it would be a clogged filter or low fluid if it acts like that. if you at WOT, it feels like it doesnt want to shift, or just doesnt shift down. Same thing happened with my ram, turned out to be a dirty filter and low fluid

I had a similar issue when I 1st bought my Z, except mine had a delay taking off from a stop. Mine had a check ball stuck in the seperator plate. Check ***** getting stuck in the plate, or going all the way thru, are not uncommon on the 4L60E. I replaced the plate with the superior TransGo plate when I installed a TransGo SK.

Plate PN here in my thoroughly ignored review:
