Default 1st vs. 4th gen drag race

The debate is which car will be faster. Both cars having the exact same ls1 engine/trans combo and drag radial tires. Lets also say the 4th gen has full bolt on suspension and the camaro has leafs with caltrac bars. Also both are at the same weight. which would perform better on the street and at the track?

If thw weights and combos are exactly alike (minus the suspension), I'd say the 4th gen due to aerodynamics alone will win.

Goofy question. Seems to me that the race would go to the best driver.

What about the first gens longer wheelbase. Is this gonna hurt or help 60ft times. The 4th gen does have the best aero package.

The wheelbase difference of 7 inches could help, but we're also basing leaf springs versus coil springs for suspension, so it's still not apples to apples.

The question was ( which would perform best on the street & track ? )
It should be obvious that a 2000 thru 2002 Z/28 and or SS would or should outperform the 1967 thru 1969 Camaro on the basis of thirty three years of improved technology ie: brakes, handling, aerodynamics, suspension, materials, safety improvements, etc. That being the case on the street . The strip however might just favor old glory , both useing FULL strip ready suspension I would still put my money on the shorter wheelbase of the two . The fourth gen cars of today will become the 69 Camaro of the future . A couple of decades from now gearheads will come to realize just how good the 1994/2002 Camaro's were & are .

The 4th gen at the same weight and power should win. It comes down to the launch. Leaf springs, even with cal tracks are terrible compared to a torque arm car on the launch. I don't think Ive had a 1st gen car with drag radials that has 60 footed in less 1.55 and my current torque arm car beats that by a tenth and a half just goofing off.
