Question ...when the gas light turns on...

Hey guys,

Been fairly broke here lately (I get paid bi-monthly). So needless to say, I see my "Check Gauges" light every damned day *SIGH*... My question is, When that lil' red light of doom illuminates, exactly how much fuel remains... 1 gallon or so? Curious cuz I feel like I been pushin' my luck! I wonder if the needle will get ON the red 'fore she runs out? LOL terrible situation, I know! Thanks in advance!

Be kind to your fuel pump, and wallet - don't let it get that low.

It's a bad idea to let it get too low. If you're low on money, you're gonna be completely broke when you burn up the fuel pump. It's not an inexpensive fix.

Ohh yes great fun! you will have to take off the entire rear suspension off, undo the rearend and swing it out of the way.. then take down the exhaust, heat shields, finally the tank. You will have to actually bend the filler neck slightly to get it out. And that is just to get the actual tank out of the car! Its a blast! lol!

Seriously though its not a good idea to run the car out of fuel. Fuel cools the pump.. with no fuel the pump overheats and burns up. My old 95 camaro the fuel gauge used to stick once in a while. all it took was once running it out of gas once and the next day I had low fuel pressure and had to replace the pump.. coincidence? I don't' know but I sure don't want to test it to find it out!

OT, but I only had to remove the filler neck, some brace going from the body to the rear end, catback (left the I pipe in because it's welded in Previous owner), and a few heat shields. Took maybe an hour to take out, and most of that time was trying to get the tank around the I-pipe. What year is your car?

ohh thats right newer cars have the plastic tank.. the car I did the pump change on was my old 95.. I've not done a pump change on my 01 with the plastic tank sounds like its an easier time.
