Default TR 224 -114 LSA or TR220-114 LSA

I have stock 01 SS with,RA,lid,FLP headers W/ORP's, slp dual center mount exhaust and some other stuff, I cant make up my mind on which cam TR 224/224/114 or a TR220/220/114, I want power through out the power band and emissions are somewhat a concern due to living in southern CA, What are the power and emmissions differences between the two? The TR224 seems to be more popular choice right now.

the 220 will work absolutly fine just the way the car is right now, but the 224 you might want to get a set of 3.73's to go with it. Otehr than that I will just say go with tht 224, Its the best all around cam.

Is your car A4 or M6? Ive seen M6 guys just love their TR 224/224 and even the higher lift MTI C2 224/224 with little or no tunning with stock 3.42s. A4 will probably need tunning and a bigger stall converter to get the most out of it. As far as emissions go, I couldnt really say. I live in TX so regulations are not as tight. I wouldnt know what emission restrictions a bigger cam would create.

Quite a few people in California have gotten the TR224 114 through emissions, but you will need a good computer tune and your cats to do it. BTW, that's the cam I'm getting soon and I will getting checked for emissions also. There's a GP started on these cams if you didn't already know.

Honestly, since your SS is an M6, and you gearing is the stock 3.42 ratio, I'd go with the TR224 on a 112 LSA. With the 114LSA cam you'll have to spin your motor a couple hundred RPMs higher for peak HP. I don't mean to confuse you, or question your choice, just my oppinion. I think in the end you will be happier with the 224 112LSA. There are a ton of posts about these cams in this forum. Use the search feature and read through a few of the threads to learn a bit more. It helped me out a lot. As for the info on the GP (group purchase) Go to the Group Purchase/ Specials Forum. Thunder Racing is selling 3 different options for complete Cam Packages. Since you and 10 or more people are purchasing the cam + package, you get a reduced price. You pick your choice of Cam, springs, pushrods, etc. I would say your best bet is to call Thunder Racing and talk to Paul about the TR224 and what would benefit you the best. Good Luck!

if you have a A4 3.23's will work fine with a 224/224 114 cam

220 is a nice sleeper cam

Yeah I recently ordered 2 TR224 on a 112 LSA for my friends 02 M6 TA and my 99 M6 TA. Reading previous posts it seemed like the best choice.

OH! And GP = Group Purchase, a reduced price for a big order--multiple people buying. Its the thing I MISSED out on when I ordered both these cam packages a couple weeks ago lol

You can split the difference and go with a 222/222 .566/.566 112 (the Hammer! aka C1 cam).
I just bought one

Hi guys

224. 112LSA cam are great for M6's but for A4's a 224. 114LSA is perfect and get LS1edit.

TR224

Good luck

220 cam will pass and the 224 will be close but either one will requier computer mods or else the car will random misfire also both those cams you will at least need a 4.10 gear but i recomend a 4.56

does anyone have any ideas of the power differences between the two cams? im assuming the 224 will put out more, but how much? and is it worth the added likelyhood of not passing a sniffer?

Paul from Thunder was quoted in another thread as to have said there is 10 hp difference between the TR220 and the TR224.

I got the numbers in the sig with my TR220 cam, no pulley, no cutout, no ported TB, and turning 17x11's ! The car idles near stock and has stock tuning with a maft.

Yea, that's my problem! I would rather have the TR224/112, but I want to pass emissions also, That's why I was thinking of using the 220/114. How hard is it to pull the cam when I't comes time for emisstions time? Also in orange county califonia Iv'e seen from time to time to what appeared to be a portable dyno at the side of the road with cop's pulling people over at random to check thier car's emisstion's!
