1st time to the track with it

Car Setup:

468 Roller rocker big block 12.5-1 Compression on 114Octane fuel
400 Turbo-Hydro (2500 stall)
12-bolt rear with a 4.56
Ladder 4 link suspension
250HP wetshot. Not used tonight

The shift points are all screwy, i was shifting at 6600 rpms, but it feel like the powerband stops at about 4500, because at the end of the night i would shift right into 2nd about the 100' mark, and then 3rd soon after, all by how the car felt.

IMO the cars tuning was way off, I think its really retarded for the Spray

DA was supposedly around 4000

i think the DA had something to do with it, and my lack of experiance with carb tuning.

made 6 runs tonight and had a BLAST. This car is so awsome, i can't wait to tune it and see what it can really do. Tonight, i found out that my passenger side muffler was being held on by one bolt, and a whole lotta luck, so i removed it for the rest of the night(2 passes)

I really wanted to break 11's tonight, but after my last run i threw my belt clean off, and the temp. hit about 250 I'm guessing it threw it right after i crossed the traps. The pressure was so much the burst seal on the bottem of the catch can blew off, thus causing an EXTREME mess, and alot of frustration.

Best R/T was .017

Best pass was the final one

R/T .237 (they messed up on the tree, i wasent even stalled up)
60' 1.751
330 4.982
1/8 7.733
mph 89.10
1000 10.117
1/4 12.139
MPH 111.15

What do you guys think? :burn:

sounds like it should have more left. What are the cam specs? What are you launching it at for rpm? what heads? I'm thinking a big block with 12.5:1 compression, a ladder bar set-up and 4.56 gears should be in the 11s at least unless the engine is what came with the car and might have some mis-matched parts.

launching at about 1900 off the foot brake, its hard to hold the car at any higher, the motor was in the car when we got it, so i dont know what heads are on it.

Intake lift: .556
Exaust lift: .580
Lobe center 112
duration 380

I'm guessing iron heads, but without knowing what heads are on the car, chances are the heads are not flowing the air you need up top if it feels like it stops pulling at 4500 rpm. Shifting at 6600 rpm should be necessary with that cam I'd think.

I'd find out more about the heads, possibly look into a dyno tune, and consider a bigger stall converter (at least a real loose 11" or a 10").

That 2500 is really hurting you. I would look at a 9" 4000-4500 if you plan on hosing it often, or a 8" 5500 if you plan on keeping it on motor.

I plan on spraying it, thanks for the advise guys!

Would a transbrake and a 2step help bring my 60' down?

.

Have you tried other fuels. My slow car had ~the same motor in it at one time. I tested 110, 114, 118 and it ran quickest with the 110. The DA was high that night. It was 4000 when I got there, and 3600 last time I checked. You need to know cam, intake, carb sweet spot, before you can buy the perfect converter. As said, ~4000 for spray, ~5000 for HP, if the combination will support it. If you get a bigger cam, you could get a bigger converter, if it will hook.

A brake, 2 step usually helps, but not much with the tight converter. It will only hit a certain RPM, the brake will not change that.
A 250 shot on a motor you never had open is another thing to consider, just my opinion.
You also must know the advance, you can't do anything if you don't know where everything is at. Keep notes, record all info. Timing, jets, DA, fuel, tires, bars ect. I have a couple of race logs laying around. If you want, next time in my area, come get one. Records are your friend. Even with the high DA & the motor not being right yet, you have an 11 in there somewhere. My opinion. Good luck.

Thanks, yeah i'm going to check alot of things before i even fill the bottle. I'm more into getting the car dialed in N/A then once i feel ready for spray retune and go for it.

This whole race car thing is new to me, I like it:)

sounds like a poor cam, 4.56 gears are way to low for the juice. Get a converter at least 3500 stall. Probably need about 36-38 degrees of total timming off the bottle, lots of tuning left.
