Default LS1 or LT1? Buying soon.

Hi,
Just started looking for a car and my price range is between the '96 - '00 area depending on mileage. Should I forget about the LT1 as an option and only look for '98 and up? Or, is is somewhat comparable and should I just get the right car for me given either engine?
Thanks!

Both can be made fast. Get whichever you get the best deal on and whichever one puts the bigger smile on your face after the test drive.

Drive both, I guarantee you'll want the LS1 after that!

it all comes down to what you can afford. ive see lt1s for sale that the seller wants more than its worth and ive recently seen a few dirt cheap ls cars . for the money you cant go wrong with a ls1 car.

Thanks. Confirms the hunch I already had. The X had a '98 LS1 and I loved that thing. No experience with the LT1. '98 and up it is. Thanks again.

the LS? is a better design. change the sparkplugs and distributer on an lt1 that = hell + the radiator bleeding! Both make great TRQ. LS1 lighter motor. handles a better power range, loves cold air (unpredictable pwr) breathes great on intake (besides air lid), just open the exhaust, and can take as much of ,if not better of a beating. The rebuild is more though! LS1/2 are welll design motors. Hands down LS?

I just wish I had sold my LT1 sooner. Never did I know how green the LS1 grass really was.

What changes were made in 2000 from the '98 and '99 LS1?

Lt1 is a good platform, I owned a few but finding one not beat to hell is very hard .... Ls1 is much faster and you can find one cheap nowadays w/ still good mileage...and they can still basically hand anything on the road its *** except for maybe the terminators and LS2 GTO's
