Default Belt Slipping......

The car is a 02 TA 6-speed it has a built 347 w/ Fast 90/90 intake setup. It had a LS6 cam w/ with stock LS1 heads. It made 585/525 corrected back in Feb. Then we had to put some VHT on the belt so to prevent it from slipping and it put out 15 psi w/ a P1sc. Since then i have put the ATI race valve on and put a 228/236 dur., 588/601 lift, w/ a 114 lobe seperation cam in and after putting the car back together and went to dyno it and it was slipping bad. We used the same 8 groove belt with no VHT on the 1st pull we got to 8psi and it would drop to 2psi. Put some VHT on it all we got was 10psi at 5500 or so then drop to 2..

Is there a certain belt to use cause the belt came from my local NAPA.. Its just a 8 groove 51" normal style belt.

I am going to try a Gatorback belt From Autozone though i don't have it fully reassembled yet..

Once a belt has slipped once, usually, it will not ever hold again. Just get a new one and make sure it is tight.

However, don't expect to see 15 psi again with that different cam. You will be lucky to make 12, but you will definitely pick up more power even at that lower boost.

I think Napa is the best belt for quality and grip. You might have to go with larger diameter pulleys for more contact area/pulley wrap. The SDCE kit would work well but be much more expensive. I would call Bob or Jake at EPP and ask them for help.

Is that true about "once a belt slips, it always will?" If so that would answer my boost problems.....

Id say try Gates green stripe or HD belts....

Gatorbacks dont seem to have a huge fan base for blowers.

Gatorbacks are a no-no. There is absoloutly no reason to upgrade your bracket. Ive done 18psi on stock bracket!

And making 15psi on a P1sc is ALOT, i am surprised you can do this with the cam you have. The P1sc is the issue most likely at the moment, you are trying to spin a p1sc where the d1 should be.

That's got to be one small pulley you're using. No wonder you're having belt-slip.

I would say that if it has been a lot of slipping, the yes replace.

but minor slippage, I wouldnt worry. Some degree of slippage would be expected now and again. Its part of the reason we use ribbed belts instead of cogs.

Since my first tune on the dyno my car has never made power past 6000rpm. My tuner and I couldnt figure it out... That was 6 months ago!! I have been driving my car like that ever since just thinking that was my car. I am anxious to see if belt replacement could fix the problem!!! Looking at my dyno graph, car consistently climbs to 6000 rpm and falls on its face. (obviously not typical of centri cars)

Did a little searching about gatorbacks and apparently they are not the best choice for centri's.... everything i have read said gates are the best.

It made 15psi on the last pull at XXX in Feb. It had a LS6 cam FAST 90/90 TB, and stock LS1 heads and we turned it to 7100 rpms. I'm not sure what size pulley it was on the SC. Sorry i havn't posted up college and work has really taken up all my time...
