Default Car is getting close--several pics from last few weeks

Here's how much I got done so far.

Sorry, posted a little more than I planned, couldn't figure which to skip, so I did them all. OOP'S. More parts coming in anyday. Drysump rebuild kit, mandrel & gears, fittings coming out my ears. Be easy on me, I'm old & get tired easy.

Looking good. What class are you planning on running?

1st ? Should have listed some parts, wasn't thinking.

New Dart big M
New Howards Pro 4340 internal 4.375
Carrillo 6.405 billet rods
JE 14.5 4.500 pistons
New Howards swap cam .840, .820
Brodix -2 old old heads, had for years
New victor 4500 ram
New dual 1050 Holly's, stock from the box
New NOS fogger
misc old parts, crank trigger, dist, dry sump ect ect.
Hope for 1100-1150 HP on mild N2O shot, ~250. Big hit ??

2nd ?? That's the motor from my slow car. It's way too slow to qualify for any Top Sportsman race around here. So we will just go test some new wiring. Maybe find some quick 8 race near here. I also promised my crew chief I would get him a 7.49 license. We won't run in any class until the 705" is built, or I get a new N/A engine. I really want a 5.0 engine bad!!

Thanks,

the mandrel came in & the parts for the dry sump. So I'm a little closer to firing up. I did find some damage in the dry sump, so I'll go searching for o-rings this week. The intake had to be recut, that should be back Tue. Hoping to make some pass' before winter.

Looking good. We're actually getting really close with our Top Sportsman truck also. Its a 565, RHS320 heads, Holley Pro Dominator tunnel ram, 3 stage dry sump, and a lot of other goodies. With the two little carburetors it made 1039hp/782tq. We're probably going to put some dominator's on it and go back to the dyno, our original goal was 1100hp with conventional heads.

Damn, you must be doing something right. That's some big numbers from old style heads. I doubt if mine could break 900 even with the dual dominators. We have about the same set up, 3 stage pump, cast tunnel ram, 557". Hope to weigh about 2350. Weighed 2400 with a filled block, last year. Put in the carbon bottles last w/e. Need to make 1150-1175 hp to run 7.49.

Good luck with your toy.

Our motor is definitely set up on kill. The heads averaged 430@.900" and 427@.800 with a 2.32" valve. We wish we would have gone ahead with the 2.35" but we'll do that when we freshen it up again. We're still probably going to get some dominator's and go back to the dyno when we get some more money.

We're hoping our truck will be 2300 with me in it so we'll have to add 50lbs but its hard to say. Some of the other trucks we've seen with big blocks are at about 2400. Time will tell though.

Won't you have to be at 2450lbs with nitrous in top sportsman? Good luck with your toy as well!

Both look killer guys. I am not at that level yet. Just a 468 BBC, out of the box aluminum bow tie heads and dart intake, all 80's parts, was built in like 84.

Old taylor wires, gold MSD caped distributor, BG 850 carb that was ported and worked by him to flow a 1000cfm, has a belt driven water pump with a fan on it and electric fans. 2 stage N20 plate system.

Car stays right near 180 in good temps, in the 90's it gets in the 210 range even with the electric fans on in traffic.

First plans are to go to an electric water pump, MSD wires, K&N exstream filter top, ect ect.

Spraying one stage out of second gear spining it went 136mph.

I might have the heads and intake done this winter, have not decided yet.

Not bad for an old 468 on a factory block and 80's parts

That's sounds cool, both of you.

1st, that motor is for my slow car, we will never race that one in T/S. It will never qualify around here. When I get my Big Chief style 705" done I will make weight. Just want to make pass' for now. The heads are fresh, all new titanium valves & the jessel's were just rebuilt. The sheetmetal intake needs some work. Not sure on what block to get. Still debating on deck & alum or steel?? Everything else is either on the shelf or already picked, just waiting to write the check. Still hoping I can get a 5.0 motor, but that's a huge check to write.

2nd, damn, those are some bad heads. My 15 + year old Brodix flow 376 @ .750, so I'll be happy with what I run. The plan is to get it dialed in & put back in the slow car. Trying to run 8's N/A, I ran 9.31 with a 477" I did upgrade my heads to 2.30's a few years ago, so imagine what I had with only the 2.25's

3rd, even at 1100 hp, are you going to race T/S and qualify. The bumps are usually between 6.90-7.30 when I talked to some of the guys that travel. My track only takes top 16, do you have all run at your track??

4th, Juiced, you're doing great, and you better make the trip up, if I ever get this damn thing done & running good !?!?!?! Good luck & keep at it.

For a 705" motor, 5" bore spacing will definitely make more power but like you mentioned is very expensive. If we ever build one for ourselves, we would like to try some of the 14* Sonny's heads on a 4.84" motor. The only set we've ported went 583cfm@1.00", pretty damn mean.

The RHS 320cc heads are some of the best we've seen for a conventional head. The motor that was in our old car was very impressive for no more than it was. If we could have run it down at sea level on a really good day it might have squeaked some 8.3's. It was a Don Hardy Monza, weighed 2310 with me in it, the motor made 856hp 644tq with one dominator, Eagle rotating assembly, 12.8:1, RHS 320cc heads that averaged 387@.800 with a 2.25 valve. I ran a best of 8.69@156 in 4500'DA(we're in west Texas). We do however have some customers with some -2's that we've done that run way quicker than they should for no more than they flow. They're definitely a good working cylinder head. A local guy had some on a 509, injected alcohol that ran some low 8.3's, high 8.2's in a 2400lb Vette.

We run division 4, which in most cases only about 15-25 cars show up and its all run so anything under a 8.00 is good. Its not near as radical as your division.

Yeah I need to get up there Dragster. Hopefully I can run up in October.

Not wanting to get to insane with this car. It still has power everything.

In the future I want to build a TT BBC car thats striped down and tube chassis.

A local buddy is almost done with his 94 Camaro, it has a 540 with twin T-88's...

Ran some temporary fuel & dry sump lines & fired up the car Fri. Did some more breaking in Sat. Just really needed to hear it run, with all that has happened. Thanks for looking & commenting.

Just wait until he gets the new toy. Even if I think he should buy a used car, instead of building a new one.

Thanks for the comment.

Ok, as some know there have been several health issues in the family. Mine, wifes & our immediate family.

I can now report, the car has finally been uncovered, dusted off, taken off the stands, loaded in trailer &
dropped off at chassis shop!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, LONGGGGGGGGGGGGG frigging time, trust me, I KNOW.
The car is getting some aluminum work & welding done, I'm not good enough to do on something this fast.
Boxes of parts have been coming in for about a week, with more orders going out as I think of or notice stuff.
Not a 4th gen, but this is the BBC area. Hopefully there will be another BBC on the track soon.

Glad things are turning around for you guys.

My car is in pecies, the wiring is a mess and have N20 and ignition wires that rubed almost in half........... it will take a few months just to re-wire everything but it will be worth it.

Going to put this motor back together after I get the heads worked over the rest of the way and go with a larger more modern solid roller with more compression and better ignition.

Should be able to beat the previous owners best N/A 11.1 time pretty easy

The wife wants a car also, wants another third gen with a 350 SBC in it to get used to then wants a BBC in time

Or we may keep mine as a fast cruiser and build something sick.... who knows, have to get this one on the road first.
