Question have to change springs or anything on 243 LS6 heads with TR224?

my friend wants to change his cam to a TR224 and got his hands on a good set of 243 LS6 heads he was wondering if the springs and stuff on the heads were good enough for his soon to be new cam or will he have to change springs etc?

The TR224's lift is low enought to use stock springs but I would recommend comp 918s anyway.

If I'm not mistaken yellow springs are rated to .560 lift. Isn't there a few different lifts for 224 cams?

Lift on the TR224 is .563 so techincally its "over" .560. I switched to the comp 918's for mine.

I'm running a 224 Comp cam with .581 lift and 918's on new 243's. I would swap springs for any deviation from a stock cam. It is worth not haveing to deal with a broken stock spring. Also don't forget to get a set of hardened push rods to handle the stiffer springs. Just my opinion.

I'd just go with a set of 918s and be done with it. See if you can sell the yellow springs.

actually, the yellow Z06 springs are rated at .580, there's one or two other members on here that are running the TR224 with Z06 springs. This weekend or next, I am installing a TR224 with those springs and see how it works out.

I have read mixxed reveiws as to whether or not it is a good idea to run the yellow springs with a higher than stock lift cam but everyone for the most part agrees that the 918's are a safe way to go. Why chance it? If your gonna run a 224 cam then just get the 918's and be done with it.

I ran a 218/222-.562/.566 with yellow springs and it never floated the valves and revved clean to redline.

The lift is one thing to consider but the ramp rate (how fast the valve opens and closes) is another. The ramp rate on the TR224 is much more aggressive than the stock or hot cam. But hey its your engine...

No way I would stick that cam in without upgrading to at least the 918 springs. I actually thought twice about using 918's & went with Patriot Gold duals on my 224/.581 for better valve control & to ensure I wouldn't have a spring issue.

Get COMP 918 springs. Don't chance it with stock yellow springs.
