What do you guys think is a good limit on miles for buying a 01-02 F body? A friend of mine with a 2000 Z28 told me to keep it under around 50k miles and apparently after 90,000 you run the risk of getting "piston slap". I will have about 15,000 to spend

Ls1 motor is a good, reliable motor. Depending on how it was taken care of i wouldnt be worried about it having more then 50k. I found my 02 with 46k on the clock. As for piston slap, lifter tick etc. Ive heard the ls1 is a noisy motor, mine sounds like a sewing machine alot of the time but it seems to be a common problem.

Thank god they aren't...honda engines are garbage. Run one HARD for any kind of high mileage and you'll see why. Drive it like an economy car and it will last a long time, but so will any engine. Drive a Honda like most people drive an F-body, and it will be in the junkyard fast.

Ever heard of an open deck block?? Yea, that means almost the entire circumference of the cylinder wall floats in the block, the cylinders are surrounded by coolant. All Honda blocks are like this, they are weak as hell, and need an insert called a "block guard" in any type of real aftermarket performance application.

Honda sucks.

Anyway The LS1 is a reliable engine. My 98 Trans Am has 142,000 on it and dynoed at 336hp. I don't worry about miles unless the car looks really abused. If it was taken care of you should have no wories.

ls1's are very strong, you need to find out how well it was taken care of more importanely than the milage really, unless its like over 150k, even then if i was babied it could see 200k+ no problem.

I have two friends with 94 lts, i know not a ls1, but the lt1s are known to have more problems, one has 165k and the other 175k both never had anything done engine wise, 1 had a tranny mount after he blew it racing. I would say that camaros are rather reliable

Mine has 121k on the clock. Had 107ish with Vengeance tune and put down 342hp-351tq. No oil burn between oil changes. From what I understand with no power adders, weakest link is oil pump on high mile cars. They put my cam in at 120k and said pump and chain was fine. Motors are unbelievable tough if taken care of. Oh btw, mine is not babied by no means.lol

100,000 miles on my '98 and going strong. My bro's '98 Z28 has around 90,000 and runs better than mine, and my best friends '99 Z28 has 140,000 and has no problems at all. They're tough.

im looking at a 1998 formula with 98k miles on it, it was stock most of its life until Lt headers and Y pipe + catback were added 2 years ago and then 300 miles ago when a cam and stall was added.....the car is a FL car and has "been taken care of well"......from the mileage you guys are talking about, this formula doesnt sound too bad
