Default Clay checking piston to valve

Can anyone give me a little info on this? I want to check my heads/cam combo to make sure it is good to go.

use a solid roller lifter when doing this
that way you get a more accurate reading

Good question:
I have my heads off and was considering skipping this step since I dont have two solid lifters.

Can I get a general feel for the piston valve clearance if I clay with hydrolic rollers - mine are "R" replacement lifters...

Can you use the old head gaskets?

Please shed some light on this point; thanks..

I used stock rollers and this procedure to check clearance with clay. You will need some light weight checking springs (as to not compress hyd. lifter)and tighten down rockers to "0" clearance on heel of cam (too tight will hang valve open for false reading) and rotate motor. I use clear Saran Wrap on top of clay so it won't stick to valve. I also used old head gasket for this check.
