Default what should I do to freshen this engine up?

I have the engine sitting on the garage floor and decided to pull the heads in anticipation of new ones.

engine is a 2000 with 60-70k miles on it, as long as I've got the heads off should I just pull the pan and toss new pistons/rings in it or leave well enough alone?

oil pump, rod/main bearings, rings and rear seal. Personally if it were me I would go through the entire motor and check everything.

that's a ton of $, heh. Front and rear seals are done though so i'd need rings and bearings.

my biggest concern is I just put the trans back on the motor and I don't want to pull the whole thing apart again to put it on a stand, nor do I really want to work under an engine hanging from 4 tiny bolts (valley cover bolts)
