Default cams

Greetings all,

I'm still deployed for the war but am now in Kuwait. Once I get back there is a short list i want to do.

Car is an M6 02 'Hawk with just a lid/pulley/LM.

I'll be adding:

FLP's (cats--emissions an issue where i live now)
Rollmaster
LS6 oil pump
springs
retainers
pushrods
dyno tune

Now, for the cam. Again, has to pass emissions but I want a cam that has close to OEM ilde, good midrange and not a lot of lift (918 springs).

I'm leaning toward a 222 or 224 on a 114, or even on a 116. No real HP/Dyno figures in mind but would think to be at around 390.

Ideas?

TIA,
Chris

Z06v?

Z06 adds virtually nothing <4K. I looked into that and am not too fond of just the high end gain however it has the idle quality and longevity I'm looking for.

I got rid of my F4i because i had to rev it, ride it "hard" to ride it fast. Not so with my 929RR. If that makes any sense.

Looking for more input, and thanks!

Aim High, lots pf people like the TR220, a lil more mild than the 224, easy on emissions and pulls good from peoples replies. Also Lunati has a new cam grind out, off a 115lsa, hear it is a lil more than the Z06 cam and has more under the curve. Good luck- GO ARMY!

I'm going to second it on the TR220 114 or the MTI B1 or even C1 for your needs. Both of these cams are very well proven in our cars and will give much better performance at all rpms than a Z06 cam. Also, aim high as CAT3 said; a lot of people wind up installing two cams before they are happy. These new engines handle big cams better than the old ones did. I'm going for a TR224 myself . . . and that's what you'll need as well to hit 390 hp.

BTW, good luck out there from me as well. I'm civil service but work for the Air Force.

I did a search on cams here and at LS1.com-they have a cam thread sticky which gives some times/dyno numbers per users experience with their cam. I suggested we here do the same to cut down on all these redundant posts- I put this in the Suggestions section!

C1: 222/222 .566/.566 112 "The Hammer" (you gotta love a cam called "Hammer!"
Just got one myself after months of sleepless nights pickin' a cam (ok, I exaggerate a bit... )
It will definately get you up there to the numbers you're lookin' for.

Here's some sheets from Jason's car:

"I have received quite a few emails today from a some people wondering how the TR cams compare to each other and how they sound at idle. Here is a dyno graph comparing the TR230/224 111, TR227/224 114, TR224/224 114 with stock heads. All three of these cams were tested in my car and the only thing changed was the cam.

Thunder Racing cam comparison

TR230/224 111 vs TR224/224 114
TR230/224 111 vs TR227/224 114

I also have a few soundclips:
TR224/224 114 through Hooker catback
TR224/224 114, cutout open

TR230/224 111 through Hooker catback
TR230/224 111, cutout open

My exhaust consists of Grotyohann 1 3/4" longtubes, FMS 3" off-road pipe, Hooker catback.

If anyone has any questions regarding these cams, feel free to email me at jason99ta@hotmail.com or jason@thunderracing.com

I'll be out of town until Wednesday evening, so there will be a delay getting a response back.

Jason

Hmmmm, looks like Jason's links didn't make it; just go to the Group Purchase section and look under the Thunder Racing cam group purchase.

ahh, but the more I look...from my friend Craig at GTP...:

Looking over some cams. I've all but decided on a TR 224 because i think it gives good power throughout the band and with tuning will be emissions friendly. Reverse split is attractive to me though and 918 springs will work with these lifts...OEM heads, headers.

Check it out:

222/226 540/534
or
224/232 558/568

all on a 114 (my choice)

i say go with the 224, definately a proven cam, plus on a 114 it idles perfect, good thing about single split cams.

Oh and i finish school next simester and plan on going to OTS in the air force, looking into piloting Maybe C5's. Guess We'll find out.
