Default Compression question?

I was about to buy an STS kit when I came across a short block that I couldnt pass up. I would be an idiot if I did. The guy got into trouble with money and was practically giving it away. It's a 396 with 4 bolt mains, and forged internals. It was built with the intent of using LE3 heads to acheive a near 10:5 to 1 compression. Now Im not any good with math so hears my question: If i were to bolt up a set of ported trick flows (have laying around) on this motor, I would have around a 9:8 to 1 compression? With the motor being forged Im still going to buy the STS kit and push around 9lbs (street) 12-15lbs (track). Is that compression low enough for that much boost? Thanks for the help

you allready have the short block and its out of the car, sell the current pistons and drop the compression ratio down. Unless you want to run race gas to push any decent boost.
