Looking to coat my garage floor with either epoxy coating or something of that nature or some checkered tile. What are you guys using and whats the best for oil spills and easy to clean up?

I love my epoxy shield flooring.
I haven't spilled anything that has seemed to effect it, with the exception of brake fluid.
Very easy to clean, looks great.

What kind of epoxy Jimmy. I saw some kits at home depot and lowes for like 60-80 bucks that don't seem bad just never heard of anyone using them.

Biggest thing you have to lookout for in Epoxy is that you need to stay away from water based products. Solvent based are better at avoiding stains from automotive fluids.

I used the Epoxy Shield from Lowe's in my new house. Takes about 3 gallons to do a 3 car garage. Good prep is important obviously which is why I did mine right away when the concrete was new. But that stuff is awesome, very scratch resistant dragging a floor jack across it. I've spilled gas, oil, brake fluid, etc. on it and it still looks perfect. Highly recommend that stuff.

I sent him an email asking some questions about prep and such, and his reply to me was that prep is important, but that the solid state epoxy is much more forgiving than the other mainstream stuff out there. I may give this stuff a shot as soon as I get my motor swap finished up. I like the idea of the solid rather than diluted epoxy.

Premier Garage -- VERY nice stuff, well done, guaranteed, but wanted $3K to do my 750 SF 3 Car garage. That's a forged shortblock (almost), so I said no thanks.

Here at my store we sell the rustoleum kits. Our village used the tan kits in their water pumping station and it worked out great. Just make sure you don't have a water problem. Take a piece of plastic 2' x 2' and tape it to the floor. If the plastic condensates in a week or two then the epoxy will eventually pop after a while. Other then that good surface prep and your ready to go.

I cheaped out and used the crap from Home Depot. On a 20 year old floor it held up great. Did a few burnouts bu accidedt and it came up a little. Sure make cleaning things up eaisy and looks great. Cost me less than $100. Would I use it again. Yup.

yea, its def not cheap...but thefinal product and customer service you get..2nd to none:nod:

they also gave us a nice discount due to the size of it and them really wanting the job (not out of desperation...just to show finished pics of to future customers) :secret2:

only thing i can think of is that maybe not all the acid was washed out thoroughly enough and some adhered to the asphalt which is now causing it to not stick well?

prep is very important. they spent almost a full day and a half prepping ours with a dozen man crew

i used u-coat-it. was kinda expensive, but i like the result. some advice i can give is to go nuts with the surface prep... in some of the areas that i coudlnt get off all the shit that the previous owner spilled, the floor is a little discolored (but still sticks fine). also, it tells you to 'mist' the floor with water before the first coat. my floor isnt perfectly flat in all areas, and water pooled a little in some areas... that caused the first layer to be a little thin in those areas. luckily they arent in an area where i'm going to drive over or be likely to spill chemicals, but its still important to note.

I used the HomeDepot stuff for $25 a gallon, "battleship grey".... I think the brand is Behr... it held up very well for the price, I am glad I didn't spend $200 for this because I am welding a lot in my garage and I painted a car in it last year.... time for a second coat of that cheap Homedepot epoxy

Concreet Stain Sucks.... The Homedepo\lowes 2 Part Epoxy Kits Work Really Well So Long As It Dosent Sit In The Sun All Day Long...

Stain Will Peel Under Hot Tires And Comes Up With Solvente Even When Dried The Epoxy Kits Will Hold Up Much Better And Are Still Pretty Cheap... Also Their Easy To Use

In The End If Its A Shop You Dont Want A $1000 Floor Coating Because Certain Things Will Ruin Any Coating (ie: Jackstands) So A Epoxy Is Very Ruggid Yet Not So Dam Expensive That You Couldent Afford To Re Apply Every Few Yrs

At Work We Use The Best Floor Coating There In And It Still Gets Ruined With Forklifts And Pallets Being Moved Arround .... Long Story Short Nothng Lasts Forever But It Dosent Mean You Cant Get A Quality Product For Cheep (2 Part Epoxy Kits)

I think I'm going to go with Armstrong Vinyl Composite Tile. It's like $0.68 a sq ft and goes down easy using their epoxy. For a 2 car garage, I'm looking at less than $400 and can do one side, then move stuff and do the other side.
