Street Racing & Kill Stories - my stock z28 (2.73) vs. stage ? s.rt4

lined up with an unknown modded s.rt4 and raced a few times from a 40mph roll up to ~120mph - and every time we raced, he walked me.

i first saw the guy at a gas station and asked him wut year and wut all he's done to it. he smiles an says its an 05 and he had "this n' that" done to it. lol. it obviously wasnt stock as i saw a nice size radiator in the front, with wut looked like some brake/rotor work done on all four wheels. but i said wutever, i still need my racing fix. i have a completely stock 2002 z28 with 2.73s, times listed in my sig.

my question is: shuld i be embarrased? lol i mean, ill give credit where credit is due - the kid walked away from me comfortably. im pretty sure he must have had a stage 2. granted, i had my buddy (~220lbs) and his g/f (...lets just say, over 100lbs) but ive always been skeptical of how much hp/tq that really takes away.

either way, it was all in fun. the guy really wasnt a prick or anything. good race.

*edit*
im not sure why i cant just spell out s.rt4 the right way without it getting censored.

no especially if you have had no mods done against a stage whatever it is? :burn:

I think its better just to not race Neons.

Whether or not they run 11's or 14's, I just don't race Neons.

If you had 2.73s and an extra 300lbs in your car, you're lukcy he didn't embarass you...... Neons are quite impressive on the roll.

BTW, you don't need to question the extra weight, I've seen it proven and its a fact.

no reason to be embarassed, sock for stock a ls1 will win but srt respond well to minimal mods, mine ran 14.0 stock @100. with just a wastegate, boost controller and exhaust its low 13s

I think a stock s rt-4 would pull a stock auto 2.73 ls1 with 3 people in it from a roll. Flame me if you want but they are low 14s from the factory and his car would be running low 14s with 2 passengers.

tks for the replies

i didnt realize how easy it is to juice those cars up. guess i always figured once a neon, always a neon. lol same body as a neon, just different engine, and the owners get mad when u call their cars neons. kinda like how we have v6's that look just like our ls1's, with the same body style and everything, yet i dont mind calling my car a camaro.

but yeah, i got spanked. thats wut i get for being way too overconfident about cars i dont know anything about lol. i got :owned:

Yea man, I have always thought since those cars first came out that they are the best bang for the buck!

I want to see if it still works ???? lol

*Edit* It does still work lol!!! I liked when it said neon neon neon instead though hahaha

Granted I have only seen a handful of passes from S RT 4's, but 14.2 is the best I have seen from what appeared to be a stock one.

Shouldn't be embarrassed by a stage 2 or 3 skittle against your stock weighed down LS1...stall and some 4.10s and you'll embarrass him off the line. The mod bug is coming for you...

The Stages are just kits offered by Mopar. People have easily seen the same if not better results by going aftermarket and staying with Stage 0 (stock PCM).

The "radiator" was a large intercooler. All it takes is one of those, a couple of parts to raise the boost and a stock Fbody is in trouble. Example parts breakdown: Large intercooler - $500, wastegate actuator - $100, Manual boost controller - $60, mapclamp:a device that fools computer into pulling fuel and adding timing - $25, 75 psi fuel pressure regulator - $70, exhaust dump - $250 = over 300whp. Those are all prices for new parts, so it could be done for alot less used. Most modded skittles with a big intercooler have at least the above list or its equivalent, so you were up against some stiff competition.

Now, if you run from a stop you raise the odds significantly, because fwd sucks for drag racing. You are still in danger from most modded ones if you are anywhere near stock.

40mph roll is a complete dead spot for a 2.73 geared fbody plus an extra 300+lbs..yea you had no chance lol..go get him from a dig with nobody in your car  But you gota give credit where it is due, those skittles can be quite quick very easily

the stock intercooler will support 300whp easily

but yeah, id love to race the guy again when i have nobody in my car, but i doubt ill see him again, since it was at my parents' neck of the woods.

Our cars are twins! Get a stall and change that gear like I did!

That's a respectable loss with all that weight and those horrid gears. Gear swap first thing!

No worries. The same thing happened to me. But you should beat them from a dig every time, if not, it's modded like no other. I got beat by one from a roll and he had 4 people in the car. I was by myself and i got full exhaust. This particular one was modded like no other.

Dont be emberased, my cousin had one that was pushing about 366 to the wheels modded, and in stock form he was running 9.1, 9.2 consistently I recently ran one 2 weeks ago and when we went from a punch he got me by about a car until mine started pulling until I finally passed him. But we went from a dig and I got him by a car, but with gears and a stall and you should get his ass.
