Are Clutch Probs. Common for GTO's?
My buddy just bought a new Goat, and he only has 3500 miles on it. A few weeks ago the clutch completely quit working, and he had to get it towed to the dealership. They replaced everything under warranty, but they told him that it was discolored and in bad shape-like it had been abused. The thing is that he has never driven the car hard or raced, and has never even laid tire with the car. Just wondering if this is a common problem with the GTO's, or if he just has really bad luck? I searched around, and didn't really come up with anything.

Yeah, he is actually really smooth with it, and has honestly never even spun the tires with the car. Maybe someone at the stealership was doing smokey burnouts with the car in the parking lot? Who knows - it just seemed odd to me that a new car would have a clutch that looked like it was abused. He has babied that car for sure!

they most likely saw normal hot spots and because the car sat around the dealer more than you would think it got moved here and there in the lot with slipping the clutch at low speeds all the time this is what goes on. mostlikely trying to scare him into driving it nice since most people go down the road and lay out rubber first thing.
what happened? slave/throwout bearing leak? pretty common

mine wouldnt go into gear one day and when i pulled the cap off to check my fluid it was bone dry. so i bought new slave and a ls7 clutch (ls7 just cause i was down there). when i unbolted the slave the thing just fell apart. now she runs like a champ!

Who had it for the first 3500 miles?Someone who can't drive stick can do damage quick.I have seen this at work.I haven't heard to many problems with the stock clutch except for some fluid problems.I have slipped mine twice at the track when hot and it still works fine at 15000 miles.

i wouldnt quite trust dealerships. there is a local dealership by me that used to let people test drive the gtos w/ the cluster fuses out to keep the mileage off. what do people usually do when they test drive sports cars???? theres nothing you can do about now, but its just a thought.

Mine has 17k miles and I drive through bumper to bumper traffic for at least an hour a day. This was also my first manual car so I really sucked for a couple hundred miles. The only issue I have is the clutch pedal sometimes stays at the floor after I beat on it, but it's always back to normal after I let it cool off.
If it was beat bad at the dealer, I don't know how it would be fine for 3500 miles and then suddenly crap out.

I've got 140+ strip passes with DRs and 23000 miles on my stocker.

I've got over 300 passes on my stocker (75 with over 600rwtq)
and 37K miles on it
it smells funny sometimes at the track, but still grips well enough to pull 1.6X 60' with DR's

I am the buddy Johnny C is referring to. I bought the car with 13 miles on the odometer. The throw out bearing went out of it at 2400 miles with no warning. Went into gear okay, shifted okay. I have driven vehicles with clutches for the past 10 years. I wasn't that pissed until the dealer had the nerve to question if I was dragging with the car. WTF, look at the tires, what do you think. Anyways, talked to Johnny C about it this past weekend to see if he had heard about this from any other owners.
By the way, I don't have to spin tire to have fun with the car.
