Default Headlight Question

Ok, so, my mom was driving my 1998 T/A yesterday, now anytime I lock or unlock the car the headlights go up then down and it makes a grinding noise. I'm pretty sure the grinding is the gear going out, so i'm gonna get a brass gear. Question is, how do I keep the headlights from going up and down every time I lock/unlock the car?

the only way you're going to fix this problem is by replacing the gear. after that, the lock/unlock problem should be solved.

Thanks a bunch! Fixing it this weekend, just wondered why my headlights seemed to be going nuts.

Another thing to check first is push down on your manual opperation *****. if they push in and or pull out then the tabs inside broke and that allows the worm gear to move up and down and not get the proper resistance.. only way to fix that is to take the shaft off (long round part) and try to find the problem.

but that isnt very easy. and ive failed horriable at it.

I suggest trying that and if it does this then you may just wanna hold off on the gears and get a new motor instead.

I'm getting a new motor. I'm working with a fellow Trans Am owner who says he know a way to wire it so that the problem will not resurface.

Im just worried about the actual hooking the new motor up.

GM sells them for 182.00 but they have 3 connectors on them. Autozone carries the same one for only 68.00 .. but its the same way..

And the factory motor has just one large plug.

im trying to figure out why its different and how I make it work...
