Default AFR < 4000 rpm discusion 14.7 ?

I was told that the car runs in SD mode until 4000 rpms then it goes by the MAF. Is this correct? An that the car is trying to keep it at 14.7 while in sd mode or have I got some terminology wrong or it all wrong?

Wow that was a lot of info in one paragraph!! Thats cool, I understand how the MAf correlates into the SD. book marked it

But one question still...is it trying to hold the car at 14.7 afr? Is that the EPA requirement or something. What's the 14.7?

My ulterior motive to the questions is that I've been tuning my car but I dont have the input inot the tuning software at this moment I'm recording it using a dynojet wideband commander and watching the guage.

I made adjustments to the MAF table and rescaled my IFR and I think I got it pretty close.

It seems to hold around 14.7-14.9 while cruising at say 2500 rpms. It goes to about 12.5-13.3 at WOT and returns to 14.7-9. Cant really collaborate the data until I get the input taken care of but it's looking good I think?

~14.7:1 is stoich, basically keeps the cats at their most efficient. But no your not necessarily doing to be at 14.7:1 commanded at 3000 rpms if your at 100% tps, that really depends on the calibration & how it was or IS setup.

So if I'm maintaining 14.7 right now under anything but WOT.. where it dips to the richer side but to only 12.3 at the max am I good for the tune right now?

What AFR am I aiming for across the boards?
